“Sylvia”, from the Dominican Republic, began English classes at Casserly House in October only months after arriving in the US.

Her consistent attendance promotes her progress in both the English language and her relationships with other adult learners. Her pregnancy has provided excitement among the adult learners, volunteer instructors, and staff alike! Happily, on December 27th, “Sylvia” gave birth to her daughter, “Selma.” After the new year, we invited each adult learner to write a note of congratulations – in English.

The learning and relationships continue! On January 27th, immediately after “Selma’s” first month doctor’s appointment, Mom and baby visited “Sylvia’s” class at Casserly House! Such Joy!  We gave her the card with individual notes and a gift of a baby blanket, pink knitted hat and wrap, and gift card.  “Sylvia” read through each note attentively… really appreciated the gifts… while “Selma” became very hungry (though, was coaxed back into contentment with swinging!).

“Selma” is growing and very wide eyed. Mom is not getting much sleep, yet, she looked radiant! Joy – in relationships and in learning! An example of God’s unifying love in our midst.
