Lights in the Darkness

Photo: “Lightness” at Casserly House!

December brings darkness in the Northern hemisphere, yet we see glowing stars, festive lights and candles aglow. At Casserly House we notice the light on an adult learner’s face when they grasp a new English concept and on the volunteer’s face when learning new techniques for instruction.

One neighbor’s face was radiant upon learning that she was to be employed in a kitchen of a nursing home. “Now I can send money to my daughters in Haiti.”

Another adult learner from the Dominican Republic lit up the room with the announcement that she would be a new mother in January 2023. There is light in the darkness if one is willing to be still and look. Wishing all a wonderful Christmas season filled with light!
