Music unifies neighborhood at Casserly House: Roslindale Porchfest
ZepenG, a Haitian roots band, roused neighbors on Saturday, September 19th on a beautiful afternoon! This year, Casserly House expanded outreach to more households in the immediate neighborhood with success. Roslindale neighbors – near and far, and young and not-so-young – along with friends of both Casserly House and the ZepenG band equally rounded out the roughly 75 people who attended.
The marvelous music by ZepenG made the driveway come life! Children offered bubbles to the celebration. Connections across time and place were made. One young woman who formerly went to Fontbonne Academy (CSJ Sponsored Ministry) did a project years ago at Casserly House (CSJ Congregational Ministry). A friend of the band’s went to Mount Saint Joseph Academy (a former CSJ sponsored ministry) and Regis College (current CSJ ministry). A niece of a band member lived across the street and came to Casserly House for homework help years ago. Connecting past with the present and giving hope for the future was all part of a unifying afternoon.
Thanks to the many hands that make an event like this possible, including the Roslindale Porchfest Committee! Thanks, ZepenG, for inspiring a fun afternoon in the neighborhood – building hope, joy and community with music!
ZepenG, their second year at Casserly House with Roslindale Porchfest (our fourth!), were better than last year, if that is even possible!
While listening to effervescent sound, Roslindale resident, CSJ Associate, and Mission Advancement Assistant Director Karen Yee watches the joy of a child who is excited by the other children’s bubbles (see upper right corner). A Casserly House ESOL adult learner also looks up to the floating bubble. Tim Wemple, Ignatian Corps Volunteer at Casserly House, chats with a Roslindale neighbor and his young son.
