On May 21, 2026, the Roslindale Adult Literacy Community Planning Group (RALCP) hosted the annual ESOL Recognition Day Awards, bringing together learners, educators, volunteers, and community leaders for an evening of celebration, gratitude, and inspiration – gathering at the Roslindale branch of the Boston Public Library.

The event recognized outstanding members of the ESOL community from ABCD-Roslindale, Family Nurturing Center, and Casserly House. Award recipients were honored with certificates provided by the City of Boston, Boston City Council, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’ House and Senate, and gift cards from RISE–Roslindale is for Everyone. Friends of the Roslindale Library provided abundant refreshments.

Among all Casserly House adult learners and volunteers who were acknowledged, volunteer instructor Patricia Cartwright received a special recognition award for her patience, experience as a former Boston Public Schools teacher, and the heart she brings to teaching her multi-level Basic ESOL class.  Casserly House also proudly recognized Elias for his incredible progress in English and his unwavering support of his classmates.  Among his moving words, Elias shared: “Casserly House opened its doors to me and extended a helping hand in learning English.” Elias highlighted the many ways Casserly House supports immigrant families beyond language learning.  His words, along with all the awardees, reminded everyone present of the life-changing impact that community, compassion, courage, and education can have.

As a surprise, Bill Campbell, facilitator of RALCP, was honored for his years of commitment and service to the Roslindale community.  He was truly surprised, humbled, and grateful.

It was a beautiful evening filled with pride, gratitude, and community spirit–a celebration of learning, perseverance, and connection.

Members of the Casserly House community gathered to celebrate and support the award recipients.

Bill’s surprise says it all — a well-deserved recognition surrounded by inspiring community leaders.
