A youth helper definitely wears it best!  This neighborhood display is an invitation to care for the earth, with shared humor.

On May 9th, we were building community while beautifying our streets.  Casserly House volunteers, staff, friends and family joined with Archdale Village residents and our host Viet Nam Temple to participate in our Neighborhood CleanUp called “Love Your Block.”  Not only is “our common home” more healthy, but the spirit is also lifted.  One of our youth, when queried about the most common thing she picked up, she said, “So many cigarette butts.”  She took pride in her work!  To get us started, we gathered around Dunkin-donated coffee, donuts, and munchkins.  After the cleanup, the Temple was again, host-extraordinaire offering Vietnamese food and hospitality under their tents in case of rain!  The City of Boston’s Office of Civic Organizing coordinates across the City’s neighborhoods for this annual event!  Thanks to all for pitching in – together!

*Isaiah 58:12. Scriptural reference to “streets” often refers to living our faith in the public sphere – a place where strangers are welcomed, embodying God’s values of humility, compassion, hospitality, and love in public life.
