Dierdre showed us a map of many revolutionary events. The Midnight Ride with Paul Revere (and Dawes and Prescott) was a highlight.
At least one of the children was visiting “The Embrace” for the first time. Another was an encyclopedia of MLK, Jr. history!
In February, we visited the Park Ranger horses. So, it was easy to swap the swan boats (only because they were closed) for the merry-go-round! One child has ALWAYS wanted to ride the merry-go-round, so that was checked off her bucket list!
By Donna Stiglmeier, Director of Casserly House
During April school vacation week, our Casserly House neighborhood children joined together for a tour of Revolutionary Spaces – Old State House and Old South Meeting House. Our guide Dierdre reminded us of the history of resistance 250 years ago that impacts our collective voice, independence, and freedom now. Though it was an overcast day, we strolled through the Boston Common, where history continues to be made, by the “The Embrace” statue, and the blossoming Boston Public Garden – home to “Make Way for Ducklings” installation!
Since the swan boats were unexpectedly closed, we took a fun ride on the Merry-Go-Round and found the playground! For one who was so afraid of the Merry-Go-Round at first, afterward she exclaimed, “That was my favorite!” Thanks to Revolutionary Spaces for the free group tour and Boston Police Department E5 Community Service Officers for the transport. Springing into the future, we are, with children, learning the lessons of history – for whole communities, dignity, and independence, rooted in love and freedom.
