Opening our doors and hearts to new learners—welcome to our community!

ESOL Classes Begin at Casserly House!

Prior to our official start of our English classes on September 8th, we gathered our wonderful volunteers! Together, new and returning volunteers, we revisited the Casserly House mission and reflected on the values that each person brings to our community. We explored topics such as Understanding Our Learners, self-care and resilience for instructors, and practical tips. In small groups, volunteer instructors shared classroom strategies to learn from one another’s experiences. This exchange of ideas left everyone energized and eager to begin working with our adult learners.

We are thrilled to welcome 40 adult learners, over half of them new.  We have a waitlist, though we connected them with other organizations so they can access the support they need.

Our ESOL classes for beginners, held Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., are lively and welcoming. We greeted our learners in the many languages they bring to Casserly House—Haitian Creole, Spanish, French, Vietnamese, and more—a simple gesture that reflects our commitment to honoring each person’s background and story.

We are deeply grateful for the commitment and dedication of our volunteers.  The adult learners are building community among themselves, too, helping each other.  We look forward to another year of learning, growth, and connection at Casserly House!

Excited to kick off volunteer orientation with fresh new energy !
