Summer Conversation Club 2025 – Learning and Connecting

Latest News

From mid-June through the end of July, our Summer Conversation Club brought together adult learners each week for a mix of lively discussions, practical English practice, and community connection. Every session had a theme tied to real-life situations — from building a family tree to exploring healthy lifestyles, sports, and entertainment.

One highlight was welcoming Karen, a local acupuncturist, who shared how acupuncture can relieve pain and improve wellness. She brought body charts, explained how different points connect to different ailments, and even invited participants to try it — which many did with curiosity and excitement!

Throughout the summer, we kept our learning hands-on: making fresh lemonade while talking about healthy vs. unhealthy foods, unpacking a grocery shopping bag to learn new vocabulary, and acting out open-market role plays as sales assistants and customers. Conversations on books, films, music, and sports led us to explore which games are popular in the USA and to introduce Boston’s favorite teams.

One week, we stepped out of the classroom for a trip to the Boston Public Library Roslindale. There, we met Emily, the friendly librarian, and Sarah, our Casserly House ESOL volunteer, who helped everyone download the Mango Languages app and learn about the benefits of having a library card — including free museum passes and a world of learning resources.

We also dove into career development, practicing mock interviews and exploring online training and job search sites — all to build confidence for the workplace.

And because learning is best when it’s joyful, we added dancing, movement activities, and games to keep spirits high.

This summer, we didn’t just practice English. We built confidence, skills, and a community that will keep growing long after the season ends. 💛
