On a rainy Saturday afternoon September 21st, the Afrika Gente Music played ON!  Gratefully, the band was able to secure two tents and Casserly House gathered some extra helping hands last minute to help assemble! While dancing in their rainboots, the crowds were prepared for weather with jackets, umbrellas, and wagons of food and drink! After the band finished their gig, they joined Casserly House families and volunteers and moved inside to share an abundant meal, including grilled hot dogs, chicken, sides, snacks with cold and hot beverages, donuts, and fruit, with some platters donated by neighbors.

One person who had another commitment said, “I’m sorry that I have to leave a little early. I never would have thought so many people would come out in the rain. It is fun!” Thanks to all who prepared/set up/cleaned up and came to celebrate community with fabulous music and a shared meal…in spite of the rain…and maybe because of it!

Jean and Olga:  Putting the umbrellas aside, Sr. Jean and Olga were our grill experts for the popular hot dogs!

Families: Sofia, Belkis, Esperanza, Sheila, Donna, and Yahaira create some warmth with smiles on the front porch of 42 Stellman!

Crowd: Amazing that so many came out in the rain…and stayed to enjoy community through music!
